8) What materials do I need to begin?

For voice - bring a bag that contains:

  • * bottled water
    * journal and extra pens* 2-3 songs on CD that you would like to learn - preferrably with no vocals on it (karaoke or accompaniment only)
    * voice recorder - this is optional but HIGHLY recommended - as you can record your lessons and practice and listen to it afterwards. You can find them at any electronics department.
    * A positive attitude!

For guitar - bring all of the above - except bring printed lyric and chord sheets as well (Alexis will tell you more about this during your first lesson)

9) Can you record my song in mp3 format?

YES! Alexis can record you singing or playing (or both) and can email the song to you that night!

10) Is there an extra fee for that?

No - this is just an added benefit to help you learn faster!

11) Can you teach me in the evening after 6pm?

Alexis currently teaches in the evening on Tuesdays and Fridays until 8pm.

12) How does a songwriting class work?

Alexis believes EVERYONE has a song inside them and will help you realize just how attainable writing that first song - or finishing that one is.

Some activities during a songwriting session:

* Learning about different types of song structures
* Creating melodies
* Basic and advanced music theory to help you understand how a song is written
* Relaxation and writing techniques to get you in touch with your creative side
* Creative listening and analyzing songs and genres to help you pinpoint what elements you would want to include in your songs.

13) Do I have to play an instrument to write a song? No!

14) Will you help me get over my stage-fright?

Alexis has many techniques to help you focus, relax and ENJOY your performance and goes over many of these techniques in her lessons.
